Threave Gardens and Estate

And so a new day dawns, and what a miserable outlook we have for the weather.  It is a shame, since the first big attraction was to be Threave Gardens and Estate.  This is a beautiful National Trust for Scotland property which I visited in 1986 and had such wonderful memories of it.  The journey from our hotel to the gardens was almost entirely on a 'B' road. This consisted of a very narrow road, with no room for cars coming in the opposite direction most of the time.  Some space was made available, at various points, for pulling to one side to allow an oncoming vehicle to pass.  However if a lorry or tractor had approached we would have been in trouble.  My Garmin needs to learn to only use 'A'roads or motorways.  After about 15 miles we arrived at Threave Gardens, in the persistent, but not too heavy rain.  Friendly staff allowed us into the visitor centre, ahead of opening time which was nice of them.  Tickets purchased, and a time for touring the House arranged, we set off to enjoy the gardens.  I have to say it is a truly wonder experience to walk around Threave Gardens. Much has changed since I last visited, but so much is still the same and the gardens are beautifully kept by the staff and some visiting horticultural students(who are accomodated in the house).
