Caerlaverock Castle

Despite the rain, which increased in intensity after our guided tour of the house, we had a wonderful time at Threave.  But we had to leave as we needed to drive to Caerlaverock Castle for our second adventure of the day.  It was built by Undwin and his son Maccus, started in the 11th century.  It became home to the Maccuswells, or Maxwells.  The first Lord Maxwell being the grandson of Maccus.  The castle was the site of many battles between the English and Scots, being so close to the border between the two countries.  The history of the place is certainly fascinating.

With the rain heavier than at any time of the day it was not the best time to visit.  But we still got some very nice photos.
