In May 2014 I took a short trip, with a couple of friends, to Instanbul, in Turkey. What a wonderful city it is, full of much to see and such friendly people. If you are able to resist the very many overtures to 'come with me and see some lovely carpets' you can certainly have a great time. In the time we had available it was not possible to see everything, or indeed very much at all, but we did get to Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cisterna, Dolmabahce Palace, The Blue Mosque as well as a boat trip on The Bosphorous. We also spent a nice evening watching a performance of Whirling Dervishes, which took place in the old railway station in the centre of Istanbul. I will post pictures of the various places we visited. I took a video of the Whirling Dervishes, on my Galaxy Camera, which looks quite good, but I am not sure whether it will be possible to upload anything to this blog as the file size would be very large indeed if the video was of reasonable length.
Since returning to the UK I have discovered a wonderful website, that has some fantastic 3D views of the interiors of Dolmbahce Palace, and many other places of interest as well. I recommend, for anyone interested, taking some time to check out the site. The link for Dolmabahce Palace in 3D is http://www.3dmekanlar.com/en/dolmabahce-palace.html
Below are photos of The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, taken from my hotel room on the night I arrived in Istanbul. Please remember that in this blog if you click on any pic it will enlarge and along the bottom of your screen will be any other pics in that blogpost, that you can also look at.
